Zoom is the popular video conferencing application used accross corporates and other official meetings. As part of COVID-19 lockdown, zoom gained the popularity as the most downloaded and used official meeting application.
Despite there was some security warning given by government, zoom has been downloaded around 131 million times worldwide which is 60x times growth compared to April 2019.
Most number of installs was from India around 18% followed by United States with 14%.
Not only the official meetings, US has started conducting schools through US based Zoom app. To address the privacy concern, zoom has tightened it’s end to end encryption to give more security.
“For India specifically, we don’t have a privacy law yet. If Zoom is being downloaded here and there are problems with the usage of the app (privacy implications), there is very little you can do right now, considering it’s a private platform and there is no law as such that regulates how data provided to this platform can be used,” said Smitha Krishna Prasad, director, Centre for Communication Governance at National Law University, Delhi.
Tech giants like Facebook, Google, Microsoft has increased their number of persons on call limits but Zoom is ahead of them which is the major advantage till now.
